 "I'm satisfyied with them" 2009-09-08
By Alibek Nurpeissov (KZ, Almaty)
1. They are big - even they are enough thin in compare to other CASIO Pathfinder models, they are realy big. I'm not a thin guy, however on my wrist they are big.

2. Tey are geeky - If you are a business smart dressing person I think they are not good for you as well they are geeky.

3. Altimeter is not precise (up to +- 80m) - I hope you are not buying it as scientific meassuring equipment, cause they are relativly precise and gives only an approximate of a real situation. It measures height above the relative sea level based on temperature and barometric pressure, so approximity is very relative. Calibration doesn't help as well. Baro is better on precise data. Compass shows almost precise picture, however if you are using map with geografical coordinates you should always count with delta between geographyc and magnetic north/south poles.

4. Temperature is affected by body heat - I'm a praticular mountain tracker, so I bought this watches to wear over my jacket in this case temp. is ok. How ever if you are waring in close contact to your skin you should take it off for 20-30 min in order to get precise readings.

Ok, enough with the challenging sides.

let's see advantages of this watches, they are:

1. Good combination of functionality and price - they are really not expensive if you compare them to other Alti/Baro/Compass watches such as Suunto or Swatch. Full scope of readings and time finctions is good solution for this price! Be sure you'll recieve everything in the same or eve lower quality in all other wrist watches.

2. Settings are very simple - first couple of weeks I did almost all settings w/o even reading manual. Unfourtunatly manual is not so clearly written. How ever watches themself let you logically find out all required options set up.

3. Baro logs and graph let you forecast weather - ofcourse your forecast would be relative and you should be outside all the time if you want to catch up a trend. But it helps during longer picnics or touring.

4. I like them, I like how they look.

My recommendation, buy it! You wan't regret!

"Better getting the PRG 110 model without the atomic time update feature" 2009-08-26
By Jeremy Lee (Singapore)

If the Protrek PRG 110 is available in your area, it is better off getting it than the PAW 1300. the multi-Band 5 Atomic Timekeeping feature is not very useful at all as it will require you to put your watch near a window at night to get a clear signal to update.

With so many of us owning car GPS units, you can easily get the the update by synchronising your watch with the time there instead. GPS time is also synchronised with ground based atomic time keeping facilities.

Both models are identical otherwise in features. The price difference will be what you pay for the atomic time keeping feature. It might not be worth the difference in price.

 "Casio watch" 2009-07-15
By Ned Pendleton (Peoria Heights, Il.)
I am 99.9% satisfied w/my new watch. I only fault the alarm & hourly chime. They are about half as loud as a Casio model ATC-1200 watch I got in 2001. I never hear the alarms or chimes on the new watch but the old one comes thru loud & clear.

 "Excellent watch for hiking" 2009-07-10
By Daniel Padilla (Newport Beach, CA USA)
This watch has everything I need. I was looking for all the typical functions in most outdoor watches (temperature, altitude, barometric pressure, compass), but this watch adds atomic timekeeping and never-run-out of battery! My previous watch didn't have this and with all those sensors the battery ran out in less than a year, after replacement the watch was no longer 100% sealed and once it got wet, i guess water got in and stopped working. That's the main reason why the solar charge makes so much sense, the battery will last for many many years withouth the need to open the watch and risk damage. I'm very happy with this watch and recommend it to all outdoor enthusiasts.

 "Phenomenal techie watch" 2009-06-22
By Rich (Seattle, WA)
Do I really go hiking that much, no. When I do, then I will bring this watch and its user guide book. I returned a cool looking G-shock because it was bulky. This watch diameter is large, but it looks fine, since the band don't protrude out like my G-shock. Also it is much thinner and lighter than most Pathfinders, since it is mad mostly of plastic. The silver plastic is a little cheap, and I got some nicks on it already, wished it was so lightweight metal.

Features other discussed that I will comment on.

1. Thermometer or the barometer is very accurate, but I had to calibrate it 8-10 degree less. It is also more accurate if it is off your wrist for a period of time.

2. Altimeter is off and someday I will calibrate it.

3. Compass is dead on.

4. Solar power has been high, but I got it in the spring season.

5. Atomic time updates every night if you place it by the window and tilted upward (not on its side).

This has been one of the coolest watches I own in term of features and will continue to buy Casio G or Pathfinder watches as casual wear. I noticed it turns off at night and there is a glow when you turn your wrist at nighttime. It has all the jogging features you want, maybe not the 5min countdown bar. Also alarm, record time, stop watch is included as usual. It feels like I am a kid again with all the Casio jogging watch I owned over the years. So much technical features that you will never use much, but have handy. The wristband is longer than most, but is ok. This is the basic 1300, there are other versions with different colors and wristbands available.
