 "A big letdown" 2007-07-16

Some things you should know.



1. My watch lasted 1 week past the warranty.



2. If the watch gets too much light or gets too warm it goes bad. You can't tell if it needs recharging because the power gauge stops working. The only way to know the power is low is if it resets and looses all its data.



3. Adding phone numbers and other info via TWO buttons is a long and painful process.



4. When the watch goes nuts and looses all of your phone numbers, time and other settings, you become a little nuts yourself.

I just got this about 2 weeks ago. It is a great watch. I actually put up my dw5600c(which I ordered off E-bay a while back)to wear this one. It does not have a steel case or a screw back but it is still an awesome watch. My only complaint about the newer solar and or solar atomic g shocks is that the count down timer can not be set for seconds only. It can only be set for minutes, as in you cant set the timer for say 30 seconds. I also like this watch because it is only solar powered, not solar atomic. I have realized that I am not a fan of the atomic models because I like to set my watch a few minutes faster than current time. With the atomic models you cant do that. If you are a fan of the 5600e model you will be a fan of this one. You just wont have to ever worry about the battery again. I am tellin you, you cant go wrong with a G SHOCK! I got my first one back in 1994 during desert phase of RANGER school. It was the dw5600c. Buy it, or another model, you will be a g shock fan for life! RLTW!

 "Full-featured G-Shock" 2009-07-02

This watch packs a LOT into a small space, while still being quite easy to read and use. The little graph in the circle shows the barometric pressure trend for the last 24 hours, and it's fairly accurate as far as predicting changing weather conditions (as accurate as any barometer will be, anyway).



Pros:

- Excellent display, crisp and clear. Great use of space, as it presents a lot of info without looking too cluttered.

- Current time is shown in all modes.

- Barometer graph always visible in timekeeping mode (ie. you don't have to press a button to show the graph).

- Solar powered (no need to stress about using the backlight, setting lots of alarms, etc - the watch will recharge itself).



Cons: (in my opinion)

- Temperature reading is only useful when the watch is left off the wrist (this problem plagues ALL G-Shocks with a temp sensor, not just this Riseman).

- No quick-return to time mode, after setting an alarm or using the stopwatch -- you have to scroll through the remaining modes to get to the time. For some reason this frustrates me a lot.

- Feels less durable than many other G-Shocks. I am a big fan of the classic 5600e, and also the Mudman models. Compared to a Mudman, this thing is almost fragile ;-)



As I said above, this watch packs a LOT of nifty little features inside it. For example - 5 alarms, "hotswapping" a second time zone on the main display (good for travellers), full auto backlight (tilt your wrist in the dark and it will light up), altimeter (useless to me, but one of those "cool to have anyway" features), and a superb layout which not only looks techy and cool, it also shows all of this on the same screen: barometer graph, day of the week, year, day and month, time, and little indicators for alarm/mute/power saving mode/auto-el/snooze - you get the idea.



I believe this Riseman will be on sale for many years to come, because it really has a feature-set that is different from most other G-Shocks. You have to pay a little more for this one, but you are getting the extra features that the more basic G-Shocks don't have (solar, altimeter, barometer, temperature) -- whether you need them, however, is up to you.



[Note - This is the non-atomic version of the Riseman, you will find many more reviews from other people under the atomic version. I bought this version because I'm in Australia and I don't think I would receive atomic signals anyway.]

This is a great watch. It was bigger than I expected it would be but it looks great on my wrist. Anyone with small wrists or those who don't like watches with big faces should steer clear of this product. I have received many compliments about this watch due to its unique camouflage appearance. The solar function to recharge the battery works perfectly. This is my fourth Casio watch in my ever expanding watch collection and it is now one of my favourite watches.

While I was waiting for the watch to come in, I saw it on sale for $130 at a local Macy's.



The watch doesn't take that long to charge. I placed it between the blinds in my window before I went to sleep, and I woke with a fully charged G-shock. Haha! Get it?



Seriously, the watch looks great and it's not as bulky as I expected. It goes with most outfits. For me it's a trendy but modest watch that I can wear just about anywhere. The lighting in the picture is darker than the watch actually looks in normal light in case anyone is wondering.



Yes the buttons are stiff. If you're somebody's track coach I wouldn't recommend this one, but other than that, this is one of the coolest of the G-shock classics. My only gripe is that I wish it had the atomic receiver.

This watch was exactly as I expected it to be. It is very simple and easy to use. The watch appears to be very durable, and the band extremely tough. The frame of the watch is a fairly large though, so if you are expecting a smaller frame this is not the one. In fact it is just as big on my wrist as my Casio Pathfinder that has Temp, alt, bar, and compass. The backlight is very bright. The watch itsself appears to use very little power because it is alway on a full charge. I love this watch and have no complaints.

I like this watch, but I don't love it and here's why: (1) The buttons are so stiff it's often difficult to use them, and (2) The alarm isn't loud enough to be any use (one of the main reason's I got the watch), and there is no way to adjust the volume up.

I've owned casio watches since day one. I'm 55 years old. They are the most indistructable watches ever made. I'm a cabinet, displayer maker for a large corp. The watches are never off my wrist, even while in the pool and in the shower. Not one has ever failed to work. I can't tell you how many I've owned. I only buy new ones for a change. The data style lets you store important phone numbers, I'm forgetful and theres too many numbers. If you don't like big bold watches, this one is not for you. I will never own a different watch, not even rolex.
